Do you like being outdoors? Are you looking for a challenging activity? Do you want something the whole family can do? Then Orienteering may be the thing for you. And if you live in Southwest New Brunswick the Fundy Orienteering Club is your gateway to access this invigorating and exciting activity.

What is Orienteering? Well imagine being given a map with points circled. Then toeing the starting line, the official signals, and your off. You have the clues (clue sheet), and the general directions (map), and tools (compass) in your hand. Now the challenge is to try and find the easiest and fastest way to each of the points. Like treasure maps of old with "X" marking the spot where you wanted to dig, you must decipher the clues provided at the modern day orienteering event to reach the double circle (finish). And the treasure/prize does not always go to the fastest runner. Sometimes it is the person who just makes the best route choices along the way.

Orienteering is a great way to challenge yourself both mentally and physically. You can participate for fun and just walk, or you can compete and run through the course. Orienteering often called "cunning running" or the "thinking sport" definitely adds a little spice to physical activity. Especially when compared with its domesticated cousins, road, cross country, and trail running. Orienteering also involves and develops skills that are essential to many adventure and multi-sport events and is practiced by many leading adventure racers.

Come and give Orienteering a try. Bring the family, go as a group, or by yourself. Try it...You just may find that you like it.
