Minutes for the 1997 ONB Planning Meeting

Participants: Ray Arsenault, David Cameron (part time), Gary Daneff, Don Heron, Benjamin Lee (chair), Stig Skarborn (secretary), Ed Smith, Luella Smith, Ray St-Laurent (part time).

1. Ed Smith gave a verbal report on COC 2000 Planning Meeting (Separate minutes available). Moved by Stig Skarborn, seconded by Ed Smith, that ONB submit a proposal to the next COF AGM to hold the Canadian Orienteering Championships at Fundy National Park in the year 2,000. Approved

2. It was decided to hold a junior and adult training camp on June 6 to 8. The preferred venue is Wentworth. Head coach to be Wil Smith. Help expected from other elite orienteers and OANS. Luella Smith to prepare budget, coordinate event with OANS's Michael Haynes and Ian Purdy, and prepare a clinic announcement. Stig to forward clinic announcement from a previous year to Luella. Level of support to training camp to be $50 for each member of the New Brunswick squad. In 1995, the cost for the weekend was $90 per person without provincial support.

3. Stig to check with Colin Kirk regarding a Level 2 NCCP clinic. Wil Smith would like to take one of these. Stig is not qualified to give it.

4. It was agreed to arrange for a van for transport, and accommodation, in order for the provincial 'A' squad to attend the Ottawa Interclub meet May 3 and 4. Food and meet fees is the participants own responsibility. Level of ONB support to be $100 per 'A'-Squad member.

5. The following comments relate to the attached Preliminary Orienteering scheduled for 1997.
   1. An absolute priority is to try to arrange beginner's clinics in Moncton and Saint John. Stig to forward sample clinic announcements for the Fredericton clinics to the Smith's and Don Heron. Luella and Don to forward information on dates, or the absence of clinics to Benjamin by February 2. Suggested that clubs consider paying someone to promote and give these clinics, if a volunteer cannot be found. (Suggestions made for teacher included Sheila Smith and Kevin Watson in Saint John, and one of the Faulkners, Terry Edgett, etc. in Moncton).

   2. If Falcon Cup is to be held in Wentworth, coordination and permission will be required with/from OANS.

   3. Mike Fellows to be contacted regarding availability and confirmation of dates for intermediate clinics.

   4. Kirk Meldrum to confirm date for Centennial Park meet. May 11 preferred.

   5. Stig Skarborn to contact Lyman Jones regarding confirmation of completion date (June 1) for UNB Woodlot map.

   6. Benjamin Lee to contact Paul Looker regarding meet in Kouchibouguac National Park. Suggested that scout map and controls prepared by Ed Smith be used. Barry Spencer or Camilla Vatour should be contacted by Paul for permission on proposed date of August 17 or 24. Group camping site availablity? David Cameron would be useful meet director/course setter. Benjamin to contact Paul and David.

6. In addition to the current membership application form, it is planned that the Orienteering Schedule will be printed on old maps possibly with sample courses.
