Bits and Pieces
Stig Skarborn in Fredericton
Attention All Meet Directors and Club Leaders !!!!!!!!!!!!
It is the policy of Orienteering New Brunswick that no one should
orienteer without being at least a recreational or group member of
our association. One reason for this is to ensure that the
organizers and Orienteering New Brunswick are covered by our
insurance policy. Another reason is to ensure that newcomers to
our sport get onto our mailing list in order to receive ONB Notes
and other orienteering related correspondence.
It is up to the individual club as to how they achieve membership
for the individual. However, I would recommend that you consider
the Fredericton Foxes' approach:
- For individuals that orienteer regularly, that wish to support
orienteering in Canada, or that wish to ensure that they are
entitled to competition in Championship classes in COF sanctioned
meets (including our "A" meets), recommend to them that
they become full members of ONB.
- For other persons and those trying orienteering for the first
time, do not charge them anything extra beyond the ordinary meet
fee. However,
- have them fill out the 1995 Membership Application at the back
of the 1995 meet schedule (your meet equipment box should
include a generous supply of forms),
- advise them that they will automatically become recreational
members at no cost, and that they, or their parent or guardian,
must sign the general release form.
- promptly after the meet, forward the application form and
$3.00 per person to Theresa Whaley, secretary of ONB. (See
elsewhere in this issue for a copy of the ONB 1995 Membership
Application form and the address.)
- For groups, ensure that they pay the membership fee shown on the
Membership Application. For details of this type of membership and
the advantages and disadvantages of alternatives, refer to the
membership application form.
This Could Be Your Last Issue of ONB Notes
A number of individuals and families received this publication and
other ONB mailings last year without having renewed their membership
for 1994. We hope that this was an oversight and that this reminder
will encourage you to immediately fill in and mail the membership
form for 1995 within this newsletter (also available at meet
registration sites). Our mailing list will be updated soon, and all
non-members will be deleted.

National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)
If you are involved with teaching ( = coaching) a sport, any sport,
or competing yourself, you should consider participating in the
"Theory" courses offered through the NCCP. They will help
you become a more effective teacher, leader and/or athlete. Level 1
and 2 courses are offered in communities throughout New Brunswick
during April and May. For further information on dates, locations
and contacts, call Stig Skarborn at 452-1804.
Mapping News
New and/or updated maps have been completed for Rockwood Park in
Saint John, Mactaquac in Fredericton and for Fundy National Park.
Each of these locations will have an "A" meet to introduce
you to the area. Hope to see you at all of these meets. Assist the
organizers by registering as early as possible on the coloured forms
included with this issue.
Mapping plans for 1995 include a new map for use by scouts in
Kouchibouguac (to be made at the initiative of and by Ed Smith) and
a map of the Connell Park area in Woodstock to be used for the
Western Valley Regional Games.
Canada '95 Orienteering Festival
Continue your plans for a great western vacation by registering for
the 3-day Sage Stomp in Kamloops from July 8-11, the 1995 COC's in
Smokey Lake Alberta, plus four other events in the period from July
15-23. Deadline for registration is July 2. Even if you are not
able to attend, please support our National Team and Organization by
donating an article to the 1995 Silent Auction. This is best done by
advising the COF of the item you wish to donate. Their address is
1600 James Naismith Drive, Gloucester, Ontario, K1B 5N4, Tel.
(613) 748-5649, and FAX 742-5402. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED.
National Team
New Brunswick orienteers are continuing to excel. Brian, Cherie and
David Mahoney, plus Wil and Michael Smith have been named to the
1995 National Senior and Junior Squads which have 25 members in all.
CONGRATULATIONS. We wish them a good year, full of fun, the prime
reason to orienteer.
Do Not Forget
.....to give a spare copy of the Blue 1995 meet schedule which you
received last month to a friend or prospective future orienteer.
