Bits and Pieces

NCCP Level 1 and Level 2 Theory courses area scheduled for January and February in Moncton. This is highly recommended fare for "A" Pool members. Call 856-3111 for further information on dates, times and costs.

There are a few of you out there in the land of orienteering who have completed NCCP courses, but are not certified because you have not completed the practical componant. You are heartily encouraged to do so. To receive credit, fill in your coaching log, I can supply one if you have lost yours, and send it in to the Canadian Orienteering Federation.

Jörgen Mårtensson, the Swedish winner of this years classic event, silver medal winner in the short-"O", and bronze relay medalist, at the World Orienteering Championships had to settle for being beaten out by U.S. Open winner golfer Annika Sörenstam in Swedens selection for it's athlete.

As experienced as 36 year old Mårtensson is, he hardly sleep the night before a major event. Hej! He is just like me. He is also very open to new training methods, food, and equipment. His new thumb compass has no lines and no bottom plate. The needle is super steady. How does he train? TYPICALLY 30 KM PER DAY 200 DAYS PER YEAR. That has no similarity to my training. New Years Resolution: I will train more next year.

The Fredericton Foxes Orienteering Club are considering mapping the UNB woodlot.

Don Heron is converting the Dorn Ridge map to OCAD.

The Fredericton Foxes Spook-"O" was cancelled due to bad weather. Next year we will order better weather.

Don Heron has prepared a great Trim orienteering course in Rockwood Park with many DIFFICULT control locations. A large number of maps have been sold to the city and many other users, not only orienteers. Perhaps this is a good way for orienteering to finance itself.
