"Rogaine" has been interpreted by orienteers to mean Rough Outdoor Ground Activity Involving Navigation and Endurance (I hope this is right, I usually get something wrong in the description). A recent advertisement caught my interest since it showed a young looking athlete with a football in his hand. Reading more closely it turned out to be for Rogaine, "The only product ever proven to regrow hair". Since it is a registered trademark, I assume that the word cannot legally be used for the endurance event.
A new map for Fredericton is now underway. The UNB Woodlot has been selected for mapping. Aerial photographs have been purchased and a base map for approximately 10 square kilometres is being prepared. Field and art work will be completed this summer or fall.
At the 1995 US Championships in Pontiac, MI, on October 21 and 22, Doug Mahoney of the Falcons finished second in the M20A category in a combined time of 129:18 (59:50 plus 69:28). On the same Red Course, Cherie Mahoney finished in 10th position in the F21A class in a combined time of 186:04 (92:05 plus 93:59). On Day 1, the Red Course was 7.1 km, 200m and 16 controls; on Day 2, it was 6.7 km, 204m and 16 controls. I had a few interesting assignments as a controller, or was controlled as a course setter by someone else, last year. I view it as something entirely positive, something that I encourage others to experience. Even though you are doing what you think is an excellent job as a course setter, the opinion and suggestions of others can be very valuable to improve your courses.
