Orienteering Tutorial

What is Orienteering?

Photo of runner at a control The sport of orienteering involves finding your way through woodland terrain with the aid of a map and compass. Participants follow a course and navigate to a number of different controls, which are locations marked on the map. The control points are marked on the ground with a flag as shown in the photo.

If you enjoy 'the great outdoors', give orienteering a try. It is suitable for all ages. Choose a leisurely walk in the woods or run a competitive race; the events offer courses of differing levels and each one holds the possibility for a sense of achievement.

This is a sport that can provide a mighty challenge both mentally and physically - if you wish! So, alone or in a group, with friends or with family, there are many choices for how you play the sport.

Just give it a try...
